Terms of use
Last updated 23 October 2026
These terms govern your use of Aussie Outage Tracker, the public map and suburb pages, the subscriber dashboard, the alerts and digests, the business directory, advertising and the data API. By using any part of it you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to bind that business.
The short version. We aggregate what utility distributors publish. We are not one of them, we are not endorsed by them, and we cannot promise their data is complete, current or correct. Never use this site for a life-support or emergency decision, and always confirm an outage with your distributor. The map, the suburb pages and the dashboard are free. The data API is a monthly plan with calls included, and calls beyond them are charged per call; advertising is charged per day won at auction. All of it is in Australian dollars, including GST, under our pricing policy. Either side can stop at any time.
1. Who we are
Aussie Outage Tracker is operated by MODLL PTY LTD (ABN 79 639 342 484), of Victoria, Australia. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that company, and "you" means the person or business using the service.
2. What the service is
Aussie Outage Tracker collects outage information that electricity distributors, and, over time, other utilities, publish on their own public feeds, normalises it into one shape, and presents it as a map, a set of location pages, a historical archive, alerting, and an API. We are an aggregator. We do not operate any network, we do not restore supply, we do not receive information that distributors have not published, and we have no ability to change what they publish.
Coverage is stated on the site and changes as networks are added. A network, a state or a utility absent from the site is absent because we do not yet receive it, not because there is nothing happening there.
3. This is not an official source, and it is not a safety system
We are not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by any distributor, retailer, regulator or government body. Distributor names, network names and logos appear on this site to identify whose data is being shown, and for no other reason.
Always confirm an outage with your distributor. They are the only authoritative source for their own network, and they are the only ones who can tell you about your own supply.
Never rely on this service for a life-support, medical, safety or emergency decision. That includes, without limitation: deciding whether a person dependent on mains-powered medical equipment is at risk; deciding whether an electrical asset, line or installation is de-energised or safe to approach or work on; deciding whether to deploy, stand down or stand by emergency plant, generation or personnel; and any decision where being wrong could cause injury, death, or loss of life-critical supply. If a life is at risk, call 000. For an electrical hazard, call your distributor's emergency line.
Nothing on this site tells you whether your particular premises has supply. The data describes network events over areas, not individual connections.
4. Accuracy, timeliness and availability
Everything we show is only ever as good as the feed it came from, and those feeds are undocumented public endpoints that we do not control. They go down, they go stale, they change shape without notice, and they are least reliable exactly when demand is highest, during a major storm, which is when the distributors' own trackers have historically buckled too.
We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, current or free from error. What we commit to instead is being honest about the state of the data: every surface is stamped with when it was last updated, per-network feed health is published on the site, and where a network is not reporting we say so rather than showing an empty map. A missing network is never presented as a network with no outages.
Estimated restoration times come from the distributor and are estimates, frequently revised and frequently wrong. Affected areas differ in precision by network: some publish polygons, others publish approximate points, and the site labels the difference where it matters.
We do not guarantee that the service will be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may take it down for maintenance, and we may suspend parts of it to protect the service or to comply with the law.
5. The public site
The map, the state and suburb pages, and the feed status page are free to use, with no account. You may read them, link to them, and quote reasonable extracts with attribution to Aussie Outage Tracker. You may not scrape them in bulk, republish them wholesale, or present our aggregated data as your own or as an official source. Programmatic access to the data has a route, the API, on its monthly plan, and that route is the one to use.
6. Accounts
A subscriber account gives you alerting, the historical archive, saved filters, digests, a directory listing, advertising and the API. You must give accurate registration details and keep your account secure. Sign-in is by one-time code sent to your email address, so whoever controls that mailbox controls the account, keep it secure, and tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised.
You are responsible for everything done under your account, including by the people you invite and through the API keys you create, and for every charge that results. Account roles determine what each member may do; assigning them is your decision. Give each person their own login rather than sharing one.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service unlawfully, or to infringe anyone's rights;
- circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, rate limits, usage limits, metering, authentication or any other access control;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-extract the site, or use automated means to reconstruct the archive other than through the API, or a bulk export we have agreed with you, under these terms;
- resell, sublicense, redistribute or republish the data, or use it to build a competing outage aggregation product, unless we have agreed that in writing;
- present the service, or data taken from it, as official distributor information, or in any way that implies a distributor endorses it;
- probe, disrupt or overload the service or its infrastructure, or interfere with anyone else's use of it;
- attempt to identify individual customers, households or premises from the data, or combine it with other data for that purpose.
We may rate-limit, suspend or block access that breaches this section, and during a major event we may prioritise serving the public map over API traffic.
8. Alerts, digests and the API
Alerts and digests are a convenience, not a guarantee. They depend on a distributor publishing the outage, on our poll seeing it, and on email being delivered, three things that can each fail, and are most likely to fail during a large event. We do not promise that an alert will be sent, that it will arrive, or that it will arrive within any particular time, and an alert must never be the only thing standing between you and a consequence you cannot accept. Configure your own fallback.
If you add someone else's email address to an alert rule, you confirm they have agreed to receive those alerts. Every alert carries a link that lets its recipient stop receiving it.
The API is available on the API plan, a monthly fee that includes a number of calls, with successful calls beyond them charged per call, as set out in our pricing policy. It is subject to rate limits per key and to limits on how much of the archive one request may read. Data you receive through it may be used for your own internal business purposes, subject to section 7. Keep your API keys secret: anyone holding one can make calls that are charged to your account, so revoke a key in the dashboard the moment you think it has been exposed. Endpoints, response shapes and limits may change as the product develops; where a change is breaking we will give reasonable notice to account holders using the affected endpoint.
9. Directory listings and advertising
An account may list one business on the directory, for free, and may buy advertising positions built from that listing. If you list a business, you confirm that you are authorised to represent it and that what you tell us about it, including its ABN, is accurate. We check the ABN against the Australian Business Register and may verify other details before a listing is published.
You are responsible for everything you supply for a listing or an ad: the text, the logo, the images, the phone numbers and the pages it links to. You confirm that you own it or have the right to use it, that it is not false, misleading or deceptive, and that publishing it will not break any law or infringe anyone's rights. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, resize, screen, display and publish it on the service for as long as it is listed or running, and to keep records of it afterwards.
Listings and ads are screened, automatically and by our staff, before they appear and at any time afterwards. We may decline, pause or remove any listing or ad, at our discretion, including one that could be mistaken for an outage alert or an official notice, implies that a distributor endorses it, or breaches these terms. Every ad is labelled as sponsored, and no ad ever changes how an outage is shown. We decide how and where positions appear on the site.
Advertising is sold by daily auction, as set out in our pricing policy. Figures we report about an ad, such as how often it was shown or tapped, are indicative and are never the basis of a charge. We do not promise any particular level of exposure, enquiries or results.
10. Fees and payment
The public site and the dashboard are free. The data API and advertising are charged for, at the prices on our pricing page. How charging works, including the currency, who processes payment, when you are charged, what happens if a payment fails, how prices change and when you can get a refund, is set out in our pricing policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary:
- Every price is in Australian dollars (AUD) and includes GST where GST applies.
- We are the seller, MODLL PTY LTD trading as Aussie Outage Tracker, and we issue the tax invoice for every charge. Card payments are processed by Stripe; your card details go to Stripe, and we never see your full card number.
- You are charged on the 1st of each month, as one charge to the card saved on your account: the API plan, if you have it, in advance for the month ahead, and the calls beyond the plan and the advertising days won in the month before, in arrears. Starting the API plan also charges the rest of the month in which you start it, straight away.
- The API plan can be cancelled at any time and runs to the end of the month already paid for. There is no lock-in and no minimum.
- Customers on an Enterprise arrangement are invoiced by us on the terms agreed with them.
If a payment fails we may refuse API calls and stop your advertising bids until it is paid. Suspension stops you reading; it never stops us recording. Your account's history continues to accrue while suspended, and comes back with it.
11. Your data
You keep all rights in what you put into the service, your sites, your alert rules, your saved filters. You grant us only the limited rights needed to run the service for you: to store that information, match it against incoming outages, and send you what you asked for. We treat the locations of your assets as commercially sensitive, and we do not publish them or share them with distributors or other customers. A directory listing is the exception, because publishing it is the reason you created it. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy policy.
12. Our rights, and other people's
The service, the software, the normalised data model, the archive as compiled, the design and the brand, is owned by us and our licensors. These terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the service; they transfer nothing else.
The underlying outage information originates with the distributors and remains subject to whatever rights they hold in it. The basemap is derived from OpenStreetMap data, made available under the Open Database Licence, and OpenStreetMap attribution appears on every map surface. If you reproduce a map image from this site, that attribution goes with it.
Distributor names, network names, logos and trade marks belong to their owners and are used here only to identify whose data is being shown.
13. Distributors and other third parties
We are not responsible for the distributors' feeds, their own websites, their availability, their accuracy, or changes they make without notice. Where the site links to a distributor, a listed business, an advertiser or another third party, that link is for your convenience and does not mean we endorse them or take responsibility for what is there or for anything they supply to you.
14. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms, if you do not pay, or if your use puts the service, its data, or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first. Charges already incurred remain payable. On termination your right to use the service ends and your account data is handled as described in the privacy policy. The outage archive itself is not your data and is unaffected.
15. Disclaimers
Except as set out in these terms and as required by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. Where a guarantee applies and the law permits us to limit our liability for breaching it, our liability is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.
16. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to section 15, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, data, or anticipated savings, however caused.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the service is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred Australian dollars.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the data, including where a feed was late, wrong, incomplete or unavailable, or where an alert was not sent, not delivered, or delivered late. Section 3 sets out the decisions this service must never be used for, and this limitation applies to those in particular.
17. Indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against any third-party claim, loss or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising out of your use of the service, your breach of these terms, the content of your directory listing or ads, or your redistribution or republication of data taken from it. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own breach of these terms or our unlawful conduct.
18. Changes to the service and to these terms
The product is under active development: features, networks, prices and limits will change. We may update these terms accordingly. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and where a change materially affects account holders we will notify them. How price changes are notified is set out in the pricing policy. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
19. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and both parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State and the courts able to hear appeals from them.
20. General
These terms, with our pricing policy and privacy policy, are the entire agreement between us about the service and replace anything said earlier on the subject, except where we have signed a separate agreement with you. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stay in effect. Not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a sale of the business. Neither party is liable for a delay or failure caused by something beyond its reasonable control. We will send notices to the email address on your account.
